Mistake #1 – Not Having a Solid Plan
When you set a goal for yourself, it’s important to have a plan on how you’re going to reach your goal. It’s also important to create a realistic plan for yourself, one that is attainable. The key is to start small and create SMART goals. Smart goals stand for goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and have a Time frame. By creating Smart goals, you’re creating goals for yourself that are attainable and worth keeping. If you set a goal that is impossible to reach, you’ll never get there!

Mistake #2 – Focusing on What You “Can’t” Eat
One of the biggest mistakes people make when they start a new weight loss program is focusing too much on what they’re unable to eat. They focus on not being able to eat bread, or have sugar, or having to forgo alcohol, that they start to feel as if they’re being deprived on their program, which can lead to roadblocks on their journey. To avoid this mistake, focus on all the things that you can eat, such our delicious Caramel Crunch Bars, or our yummy Mac-and-Cheese. Never allow yourself to feel deprived on your program! Instead, focus on making healthier choices in your everyday life.
Mistake #3 – Not Drinking Enough Water
An easy weight loss mistake to make is not drinking enough water. Sometimes it’s hard to remember to drink throughout the day, or maybe you’re trying to limit your trips to the bathroom. While it’s an easy mistake to make, it’s also an easy fix that you and your weight loss goals will benefit from greatly! Not only can drinking water throughout the day help curb your appetite and help cut down on cravings, but it can also help prevent weight loss side effects such as headaches that can often lead to eating out of stress. Thirst and hunger are two feelings that can easily be confused – so always listen to your body and keep it hydrated. The goal is to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. So, find a large water bottle, fill it up at the beginning of your day and take it with you wherever you go; you’ll reach for it more often if you keep it filled by your side!
Mistake #4 – Eating Too Fast
When you’re following a new weight loss program that your body is not used to, it’s inevitable that you’re going to find that you’re hungry between meals. Another common mistake people make is eating too fast when they sit down for a meal. It may seem when you’re hungry that you need to eat as fast as possible to satisfy your stomach, but it takes your brain around 20 minutes to catch up to your stomach and register that you’re eating. It’s important that you slow down during your meals and chew your food fully, and really taste and savor every bite. By giving your brain and stomach a chance to register that you’re eating, you’ll find that you will end up eating less, and you might even enjoy your food more!
Mistake #5 – Expecting Immediate Results
It’s important to remember when you embark on any weight loss journey that every body is different. Some people may see great results within their first week of their program while others may not start seeing results until they’re a few weeks in. Consistency and accountability are always key when it comes to weight loss. Your body weight is known to fluctuate from day to day. Remember, by sticking with your program and staying consistent, you will start seeing results, and start reaching your goals. You have set goals for yourself to become the best version of you that you can be! When you start to feel discouraged on your journey, it can easily lead you down a path of getting back into your bad habits, such as emotional eating and overeating. It’s important to remember that the numbers on the scale are only a measurement to reaching your goals, but the way you and your body feel are the real keys to success. If you feel better, have more energy, and your clothes are beginning to fit a little looser, that is the real measurements of success, not the numbers on the scale.
