In order to accomplish anything, you need to set goals for yourself. Goals allow you to focus on what you want and give you a direction on how to get there. Setting goals gives you control of your life and holds you accountable for the things you push yourself to achieve. Goal setting is one of the most important steps for a Weight Loss Program, especially here at Motive Weight Loss Center. Here are our top 5 tips for setting successful goals, and how to achieve them.

Evaluate Your Life

Evaluating and reflecting upon your life is the first and most important step for goal setting. Take a look at where you are in your life right now. Are you happy where you are? How satisfied are you with your day to day life? Evaluating your life is a baseline in which to start off of. When reflecting, take the time to look at all the things you’ve accomplished, big or small. Then, envision the life you imagine for yourself. What does that life entail? How are you going to get there? Taking the time to evaluate and reflect upon your life allows you to take a good look at where you are and encourages you to make a plan to get to where you want to go.

Define Your Goals

What have you always dreamed of for yourself? Some people dream of a perfect home in a wonderful neighborhood, while others dream of a powerful job in an amazing city. Some dream more simply of spending more quality time with their friends and family and living a healthy life. The things you dream about are the things that you want, and the things you should work towards. Take time and listen to your thoughts and your dreams. What do you want for YOU? Write that down. Writing down your goals allows you to look at them as a whole and narrow down what is most important to you. It’s important to prioritize your goals and decide what is most important that you start working towards now.  Always ask yourself “What would you do if you were guaranteed to succeed?”

Goals Should Be Smart

Once you define your goals and what you want to accomplish, it’s time to turn your goals into an action plan. To ensure that all of your goals are attainable and worth keeping, you must ensure that your goals are SMART, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time.

Goals should never be vague and should always be as specific as possible. When it comes to a weight loss program, you should have a specific goal and number in mind. Next, make sure your goals are measurable. Aiming for a goal that is unmeasurable makes it hard to measure your success. Then, ensure that your goals are realistic and achievable. It’s counterproductive to set a goal that can’t be reached! After, set a time frame for your goal, and make sure it has an end. Giving yourself a timeline allows you to break your goals into smaller parts and allows for smaller goals to be met in between.

An example of a SMART goal is as follows; I want to lose 30 pounds by the end of August 2019. This goal is SMART because you set a specific goal of losing 30 pounds, which you can measure by each pound that you lose. The goal is attainable and realistic if you follow a weight loss program, and you gave yourself a time frame, with an end goal of August! Goals are easy to set if you follow the SMART formula!

At Motive Weight Loss Center, our goals are not only based off of how much weight you want to lose, but other metrics as well that result in a healthier you! Our state-of-the-art Body Composition Analyzer looks beyond your weight, and deeper at your physical wellbeing including the amount of fat and muscle in your body, along with water, minerals, and proteins. Another big component is the visceral fat, which is the fat that surrounds your organs that often times leads to health problems. Weight is only a portion of what it means to be “healthy”. Our Motive Coaches take all of this into account, and help you come up with SMART goals to help get you to the healthiest version of you with a personalized approach to weight loss.

No goal is as powerful as the ones that you hold yourself accountable for.
